Swaytype Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Swaytype is a keyboard app for iPhone and Android. It rewrites your messages in a different tone (Casual or Professional) and translates them into other languages (Translate). On iPhone, Mates lets you leave short notes for friends on their widget. The app and swaytype.com are operated by Enrico Carrasco Network, a sole trader registered in the Netherlands.

2. What we collect and why
We collect only the data we need to run the app, see how it’s used, and fix crashes. We do not sell data and we do not show ads in the app. Some things differ between iPhone and Android, and we say so where they do.
Your account
When you first open Swaytype, we create an anonymous account for you. It has no name, email or password, just a random ID that links your plan and usage to the app.
If you turn on “Sync across devices” in Settings, you sign in with Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android). Only then do we receive your email address, and your name if Apple or Google shares it. We use them to keep the same account on all your devices and to contact you about your account if needed. With Apple you can pick “Hide My Email”, and then we only see a relay address.
When you tap Improve or Translate in the keyboard
Swaytype doesn’t write the rewrites and translations itself: they are written by AI models from two outside companies: Claude, from Anthropic, and OpenAI’s models. One of them writes each rewrite or translation. If it fails or does not answer in time, the other one writes it instead.
The text in the field you are typing in, plus the mode you picked (Casual, Professional or Translate) and the target language for a translation, is sent to our server. Our server passes the text to Anthropic or OpenAI to write the rewrite, and returns it to your keyboard. The practice message you send during setup goes the same way.
Translate also works for messages you receive. When you copy a message and tap the translate button in the keyboard, the keyboard reads that copied text from your clipboard and sends it the same way, so it can show you a translation. The keyboard only reads the clipboard when you tap that button.
So a short reply gets translated the way you meant it, a translation can also carry up to 6 earlier messages from the same chat that you already ran through Translate or Improve while the keyboard was open, for example the message you are answering. They are only background for that translation, they are not stored, and the keyboard forgets them when it closes or after 15 minutes. Text you type without tapping Translate or Improve is never sent. If you set your gender for translations in Settings, it is sent with your translations so words about you come out right.
We don’t keep the text you rewrite or translate. It passes through our server and Anthropic or OpenAI to produce the result, and that’s it, unless you turn on “Help improve Swaytype” (see below). OpenAI and Anthropic handle it under their own terms (see section 4). Notes you send with Mates are different: we keep them for 30 days so your mate can read them (see Mates below).
We also receive technical details about each request: the language code the keyboard detected (for example “en” or “nl”), how long the request took, how many tokens it used, your plan, and whether you hit your daily limit. We use these details to run the service, enforce the daily limit, show your stats in the app, and find problems.
Gifts. On iPhone, when you tap the button on a friend’s gift page, the page copies the gift link. On iPhone and Android, the Swaytype app reads what you copied only when you tap Paste, to find the gift code. Before that, it only checks whether your clipboard looks like a link, without reading it, to decide whether to show the Paste button right away, and we record only a yes or no for that check. On Android, the Google Play link carries the gift code, so the app can add your gift when you first open it. We keep a record of the gift code you added and how you added it, when your free week started and ended, and the rewards you earned by sharing your gift link: Unlimited days, keyboard looks, app icons, stickers and badges (and bonus rewrites, which we gave until October 2026). We keep your streak rewards the same way. For the 20-friend prize we check that each friend really used Swaytype: on how many days, how many rewrites, and whether their iPhone passed the one-free-week check. We never look at what they wrote. To give each iPhone only one free week, we ask Apple’s DeviceCheck service whether that iPhone already got one; Apple keeps only a yes or no for that iPhone, and we send Apple nothing about your account.
Creator codes
If you enter a creator’s code in the app, or claim a creator’s free month from their link, we record which creator brought you and how. For the months in that creator’s deal, the plan, price, country and date of your purchases and refunds then count toward the creator’s share. The creator sees only those amounts, countries, plans and dates, never your account, name or email.
Mates (iPhone)
Mates lets two people who accepted each other’s invite leave short notes that show in the Swaytype app and on each other’s Home Screen and Lock Screen widget. If you use Mates, we store your Mates profile (the name and color you pick, the language your notes arrive in, your invite code and, if you add one, a small 256 pixel photo), who your mates are and who you blocked, the notes you send and receive with the translation your mate sees, and heart or laugh reactions. Your mates see your name, color, photo and the notes you send them.
Before we save a name, photo or note, we check it with OpenAI’s moderation filter and refuse it if the filter flags it. When you and your mate read different languages, OpenAI translates the note for them, and they can also see what you wrote. “Polish” runs a note through the same rewrite as Improve. When you send a note, Apple’s push service delivers it to your mate’s iPhone as a notification with your Mates name, and tells their widget to refresh.
If you report a note, we keep a copy of its text with your report so we can review it. We delete notes and reactions 30 days after they are sent, and a reported note’s copy 365 days after we handle the report. Your profile, mates and blocks stay until you change them or delete your account. Deleting your account also deletes the notes you sent and received; a copy in someone else’s report stays, without your account, until it is deleted as above.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app sends our server a push token: the address Apple (on iPhone) or Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging (on Android) gives your phone so we can send it notifications. With it we store your time zone and language (so a notification arrives at a sensible hour and in your language), the app version, whether notifications are allowed, whether the Swaytype keyboard is set up, and the kinds of notifications you turned off. On iOS 26 and later, the Mates widget has its own token so it can refresh.
We pick when to send a tip or reminder from how you use the app, for example the day of your last rewrite, the setup step you reached or the end of your free trial, never from your messages. We keep a log of which notification we sent and when. We write the notification texts; a Mates notification carries your mate’s note. Some reminders are set on your phone itself and send us nothing. You can turn notifications off any time in your phone’s settings; on iPhone, Swaytype > Settings > Notifications also lets you turn off tips and reminders, or offers.
Help improve Swaytype (off unless you turn it on)
If you turn on “Help improve Swaytype” (when the app asks you, or in Settings > Privacy), we also store the text you sent, the rewrite we returned, and the final text after any edits you made, so we can make the rewrites better. To find where the rewrites go wrong, we may have these saved samples reviewed by an AI model from Anthropic (see section 4). This setting is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off at any time, and delete everything we stored with “Delete my saved rewrites” on the same screen. We delete stored samples automatically after 365 days.
How you use the app
The app sends us simple usage events, like “app opened”, “paywall shown”, “keyboard opened” or “setup step finished”, with details such as the screen, your plan, the app version and language codes. These events never contain the text you type. We collect them ourselves, on our own server, to see where people get stuck and to improve the app. We keep them for 365 days.
Crash reports
We use Sentry to learn about crashes and errors in the app and on our server. A crash report contains technical details such as the error, the app version, your device model and OS version, and a random installation ID. Reports about account or purchase errors can also include your Swaytype account ID. We strip message text out of every report before it leaves your device or our server, and we never send screenshots. The keyboard doesn’t use Sentry, on iPhone or Android. On iPhone its errors reach us as short error codes in the usage events above, never with text, and its crashes only through Apple’s own crash reports.
Bug reports
When you send “Report a problem” from Settings (or “Report a rewrite” on Android), we store what you wrote and, if you add one, your email address, linked to your account so we can reply. If you leave the diagnostics switch on, the report also includes the app version, your device model and OS version, your plan, your language settings and today’s usage count. It never includes your messages unless you type them into the report yourself.
When you subscribe
Payments go through the Apple App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android. We never see your card or bank details. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt from Apple or Google and tells us your plan (free, monthly, yearly or lifetime) and when it renews or ends.
Measuring our ads
Swaytype includes Meta’s SDK, so we can tell whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to installs. It sends Meta an install event, app opens, and a few milestones: finishing setup, your first rewrite, opening the plans screen and starting a free trial (on iPhone also your first rewrite in a real chat). When you start a trial or subscribe, RevenueCat reports that to Meta too. These events carry a random ID made by Meta’s SDK and basic device details. They never contain your messages or your email.
On iPhone, iOS asks on first launch whether Swaytype may track you (App Tracking Transparency). If you allow it, these events also carry your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA), so Meta can match them to an ad you saw. If you don’t, they carry no advertising identifier, and Apple reports installs from ads to Meta only in anonymous, grouped form (SKAdNetwork). You can change your answer any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. RevenueCat also collects Apple’s ad attribution token, which tells us whether an install came from an Apple Ads campaign.
On Android, if you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, nothing goes to Meta until you tap Allow when Swaytype asks “Help us find people like you?”. We work out your country from your SIM card, else your Google Play country, else your phone’s region; if none of these is known, we ask. Everywhere else, these events are sent from the first launch. With sharing on, the events also carry your phone’s advertising ID (Google’s resettable ID for ads), and Meta can use Google Play’s install referrer, a short note from Google Play about the ad that led to the install. RevenueCat receives the same advertising ID and Meta’s random ID to report trials and purchases to Meta. You can turn sharing off any time in Swaytype > Settings > Privacy > Share app activity with Meta; from then on Swaytype sends Meta nothing. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads on some phones); a deleted ID reads as zeros to every app.
We don’t use Meta’s Limited Data Use setting today. We don’t show ads inside Swaytype.
Language detection
The keyboard detects the language of your text before it sends a request. On iPhone it uses Apple’s built-in tools, and nothing leaves your phone for this step. On Android it uses Google’s ML Kit, which also runs on your phone, so your text is not sent to Google. ML Kit does send Google some technical information about how it runs, such as your device model, OS version, how long detection took, and a random ID for this install.
On swaytype.com
Our website is hosted by Vercel. To count visits we use Vercel Web Analytics and, on most pages, Vercel Speed Insights. They set no cookies. For each page view they record the page, the site you came from, your country, your device type, browser and operating system, and Speed Insights also records how fast the page loaded. Vercel tells visitors apart with a hash of the request that it discards after 24 hours, so the numbers can’t be tied to you. We also count a few clicks, such as the App Store and Google Play buttons and the buttons on gift pages. On a friend’s gift page the gift code is removed before anything is counted.
If you pick a language, your browser keeps a small cookie named “lang” for a year, so the site opens in that language next time. If you pause the animations, your browser remembers that on your device. Neither is used to track you.
When you open a creator’s page (swaytype.com/ followed by their name), we count the visit for that creator’s dashboard: the time, your country, your device type (iPhone, Android or computer), the app you came from (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or other) and the video tag in the link. We never store your IP address or your full browser details for this, and we skip bots and link previews.
If you are a Swaytype creator
For creators in our partner program we keep your name, handle and platform, your photo and the video links you add, your email, your payout method and payout email (PayPal or Wise), when you accepted the creator terms, and the sales, payouts and statements we need to pay you. You sign in to the partner panel with a 6-digit code we email you: we keep only a hashed copy of each code, your failed sign-in attempts and your sign-in sessions, to keep the panel secure, and the panel sets a sign-in cookie. Emails to creators (sign-in codes, statements, payout news) are sent through Resend. Payouts go through PayPal or Wise, which receive your payout email and the amount. We keep this while you are in the program, and payment records as long as Dutch bookkeeping law requires.

4. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers listed below, and only what each one needs to do its job. We never sell data to anyone. Supabase, OpenAI, Anthropic, RevenueCat and Sentry are bound by contract to protect your data and to use it only on our instructions. Apple, Google and Meta also handle the data they receive under their own privacy policies, linked below.
Supabase Inc. hosts our database and server functions in the EU (Ireland). Your account record, usage details, bug reports, Mates profile and notes, push tokens, the creator program’s data and (if you opted in) your rewrite samples are stored there. See supabase.com/privacy.
OpenAI, L.L.C. is one of our two writers of rewrites and translations (Anthropic, below, is the other). When a request goes to OpenAI, it carries your text, plus the mode, the detected language and the target language, through our server. OpenAI processes the text to produce the response. For Mates, OpenAI also checks names, photos and notes with its moderation filter and translates notes. Anthropic Ireland, Limited writes rewrites and translations with its Claude model, as one of our two writers (OpenAI, above, is the other). Our server sends each request (your text, plus the mode, the detected language and the target language) to one of them; when it fails or does not answer in time, the same request goes to the other, which writes the result. Anthropic also reviews saved rewrite samples, only if you turned on “Help improve Swaytype”: our server sends a sample (the text you sent, the rewrite and your final text) to Anthropic’s Claude model, which tells us what went wrong so we can improve the rewrites. RevenueCat, Inc. manages subscription state. It receives your purchase receipt from Apple or Google, together with your Swaytype account ID, to track which plan you have. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) receives crash and error reports, with message text removed. Our reports are stored in the EU (Germany). See sentry.io/privacy.
Apple Inc. provides Sign in with Apple and processes App Store purchases on iPhone. Apple receives the data it needs to sign you in and to charge your Apple Account. Apple’s push service delivers our notifications to iPhones, including a Mates note and the sender’s Mates name, and tells the Mates widget to refresh. On iPhone only, we use Apple’s DeviceCheck to check that each iPhone gets only one free week. Apple keeps only a yes or no for that iPhone, and we send Apple nothing about your account. That yes or no stays with the iPhone, also after you delete your account, so each iPhone gets one free week. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
Google LLC provides Sign in with Google and processes Google Play purchases on Android, supplies ML Kit, which detects the language of your text on your phone, and delivers our notifications to Android phones through Firebase Cloud Messaging. Google receives the data it needs to sign you in, to charge your Google account and to deliver notifications, plus the ML Kit technical information described above. See policies.google.com/privacy.
Meta Platforms, Inc. receives the install, app-open, milestone and purchase events described above, with Meta’s random ID and, where allowed, your device’s advertising identifier, to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram. Meta handles this data under its own privacy policy, see facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Vercel Inc. hosts swaytype.com and runs its Web Analytics and Speed Insights, as described above. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) sends our emails to creators in the partner program. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
PayPal and Wise pay creators. They receive the creator’s payout email and the amount, and handle it under their own privacy policies.

When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account record, gift and rewards record, rewrite samples, rewrite details, usage events, bug reports, Mates profile, mates and notes, push tokens and notification log, and creator code record right away. If you ask us by email instead, we do it within 30 days. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep their own records of your purchases, as tax and refund rules require.
6. Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to processing. You can exercise most of these directly inside the Swaytype app, on iPhone and on Android:
- Delete saved rewrite samples. Settings > Privacy > Delete my saved rewrites.
- Delete your entire account. Settings > Delete account (it reads “Delete my data” if you never linked Apple or Google). This removes your account and the data linked to it. You can also ask us to do it without the app, see swaytype.com/delete-account.
- Log out. Settings > Log out (shown once you have linked Apple or Google).
- Manage subscription. On iPhone, iOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions. On Android, the Play Store app > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription.
- Stop notifications. Your phone’s settings > Notifications > Swaytype. On iPhone you can also turn off tips and reminders, or offers, in Swaytype > Settings > Notifications.
- Mates. Change your name or color, remove your photo, remove or block a mate, or report a note, in the Mates tab.
- Stop ad tracking (iPhone). iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Stop sharing with Meta (Android). Swaytype > Settings > Privacy > Share app activity with Meta. To reset or delete your advertising ID: your phone’s Settings > Privacy > Ads.
For any other request, including a copy of your data, write to support@swaytype.com. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
7. Children
Swaytype is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has used Swaytype, contact us and we will delete the account.
8. International transfers
Our database runs in the EU (Ireland) and our crash reports are stored in the EU (Germany). Several of our service providers are US companies: OpenAI, RevenueCat, Google, Meta, Supabase, Sentry, Apple and Vercel. When data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, including to these companies, to Anthropic and to Resend, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, depending on the provider.
9. Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our data practices change. The effective date at the top of the page reflects the latest version. Material changes will also be announced inside the app on next launch.
